Casual Elegance in Hamptons Design

Contrasting the cobblestone paved laneways, Klemm Homes have designed and refurbished a modern home achieving casual elegance with Hamptons inspired design. Working closely with the team at ADX Depot, Klemm Homes utilised a variety of cavity sliding door systems within the home enhancing flow and functionality for the client.

Concealed between the walls, cavity sliding doors are a fantastic way to discretely determine where one room stops and another starts. With a multitude of style combinations to choose from, this space saving product is a must-have in any build.

For this residence, the brief was to achieve a modern home with clean lines and open spaces that allow natural light to flow through the home. While open plan design is achieved, there is always a need to section off spaces for different uses. In the case of the hallway, a full-height aluminium-framed glass sliding door is utilised to enclose a space for air conditioning, yet maintains the flow of light between rooms.

Just as there are different cavity systems to suit different doors, there are alternative ways door frames and tracks can be installed and finished. The door becomes a feature achieving a seamless floor-to-ceiling finish because the door track is recessed into the ceiling. This allows the full door frame to be seen, creating a border around the hallway and a focal point into the adjoining room. The recessed track also allows the walls and ceiling to appear uninterrupted when the door is fully open and out of sight.

Each of the doors within the home, whether single, double, full height or with wall above, are completed with the Cav-X Flushline design. They also fully open becoming flush with the door frame as shown below. The doors are designed with this nil-projection option, as opposed to having a small projection, to allow for a visible handle.

There are two options to opening nil-projection doors. The first is with the one-touch hardware, where a simple push onto the edge of the door makes it pop out enough to grip and open the door. The second is with the finger-pull latch which is recessed into the edge of the door. ADX Depot has a variety of doors and door hardware solutions to match the brief of any project using cavities.

Problem solving and confirming they had all the appropriate door track and carriage systems to ensure they achieved all the different finishes throughout this home has been an enjoyable and rewarding experience,” ADX Depot Architectural Product Manager, Craig Butcher, explains. “One of my favourite systems within this project was the hallway door. The concealed track design was really interesting to see progress and now finished and working. I’m sure it will inspire future designs.”

There are so many exciting parts within this project. The high ceilings, the central courtyard, and the stunning deck and pool area all allow natural light to flood into the home. The fresh, coastal feel of the Hamptons inspired design really works. “A favourite part of the home is the parent’s retreat. Hidden behind a cavity sliding door, it allows privacy and the perfect escape from the busy open family space. We’re thrilled our client is happy and enjoying their refurbished home,” says Carmel-Anne.
