From worst house on the street to dream home
Malvern Residence Case Study
When Thomas Taylor set out to craft a standout home that doubles as a showcase for his building business, it had to be perfect. Partnering with renowned architect Tim Hodges and using ADX Depot products, Thomas achieved a jaw-dropping result.

As the founder of Taylored Construction, Thomas takes a hands-on approach to building high-end, bespoke homes. Alongside his wife Colleen, Thomas ensures every client receives a personal touch, and with a commitment to quality craftsmanship, his team creates homes that are as unique as their owners.
“We’ve always believed in building every home as if it were our own, and as the business grew, we focused on delivering tailored, top-quality builds for clients who value the finer details,” says Thomas.
His dedication, combined with his expert team, ensures that no corners are cut in delivering homes that truly reflect the vision of their owners.
For his Malvern home, Thomas needed to capture the essence of Taylored Construction, meticulously attending to every detail to ensure the result met his high standards. A standout feature of the project is the integration of the home office at the front, which serves as both a functional workspace and a showcase for their work.
“It was great for Colleen and I to have our office here, not just for work, but for showcasing the quality of our builds. It really sells itself,” Thomas adds.
The project began back in 2017 when Thomas and his family purchased a run-down 1960s red-brick home, overgrown with vegetation and in desperate need of attention.
“It was the worst house in the best street,” Thomas laughs. “But the location was perfect, and we knew it had potential.”
After a couple of years of living on the old property, the pandemic delayed plans, but in 2021, the project officially kicked off. As with many during this time, the construction phase was not without its challenges. From supply chain disruptions to long waits for materials — including a 32-week delay for pavers and a nine-month wait for a custom microcement pool — Thomas and his team faced the hurdles of the pandemic era. Yet, despite the setbacks, they persevered, ensuring every detail was up to the high standards that define Taylored Construction.
“We built during a very unpredictable time, and it made things difficult. But in the end, we avoided price hikes that followed, and the result was worth the wait,” Thomas reflects.
The design, created by architect Tim Hodges, focused on achieving a sleek and modern aesthetic.
“The project called for crisp, clean lines both inside and out. ADX has a range of products that complement my preferred design approach. A variety of these products have worked seamlessly across this project, resulting in a striking family home,” Tim says.
For ADX, supporting Thomas with tailored products in his own home was a rewarding experience. ADX Project Manager Craig Butcher, who has worked closely with Thomas on several projects, explains:
“As a team at ADX, we’ve been privileged to support Taylored Construction through several stages of the project at Malvern. This has been a very exciting and somewhat challenging project, and the finished result is a testament to Thomas and his team’s dedication to detail and aesthetics.”
The use of ADX Depot’s products played a crucial role in achieving the refined, modern look that Thomas and Tim envisioned. The team at ADX ensured every detail was covered, from the large doors to the smallest junctions, making sure the result was flawless.
“Several boutique products were required, including shadowline skirting, cavity sliders, doors, and flush in jambs. I became involved and was able to support the installer teams with various special requirements specific to this project. This included the very large door and its housing in the cavity wall, as well as details for various junctions of material supplied. Congratulations to Colleen and Thomas on the successful realisation of a long-standing dream and their patience along the road,” Craig says.
The completed build reflects the commitment of Taylored Construction, with valuable support from ADX, and the perseverance of Thomas and his family.
“It’s amazing to live in. We’ve put everything into this house, and it’s been a long time coming. It was definitely worth the effort,” Thomas concludes.
