Helping Hand Case Study

Vibrancy in Aged Care

Located in Golden Grove, the new Helping Hand Residential Care home is now complete. The project was designed by Walter Brooke, built by Kennett Builders who worked with Premier Linings to complete the internal linings package. Premier Linings chose to work with ADX Depot to supply everything from the steel framing through to the finishing of the plasterboard. The 4-story building built on a sloped site features resident rooms with 110 beds, vibrant dining rooms, theatre, health services room, therapy bathroom, café, family stay rooms, courtyards and more.

Helping Hand Golden Grove worked with Walter Brooke Architects to design a space which featured a number of innovative products, like Knauf AMF Stratopanel Acoustic Ceiling Lining. Sourced, supplied and conveniently delivered by ADX Depot to achieve the brief, the fit-out was completed by Kennett Builders with Commercial Fitouts Australia (CFA).

Throughout any Residential Care home, hand rails play an important role to provide stability for residents. To ensure the rails and any other wall mounted objects like TVs, sinks, shower faucets and taps etc. are installed securely, Premier Linings installed over 2200 plywood nogging trimmers to reinforce mounting points. The nogging trimmers are available from ADX Depot pre-cut to fit 600mm centre spaced studs and have associated fixings & brackets adding convenience and saving hours of time – especially on commercial sites.

ADX Depot Gepps Cross Branch Supervisor, Stephen Gauci, reflects on the project; “ensuring Dave and the team at Premier Linings were able to get all the materials they needed promptly and hassle free is our top priority. It’s pleasing to see ADX continue to achieve this for our customers time and time again, keeping their projects on track and continuing to take the stress out of getting materials to site.”

Over 200 access panels, hatches and T-bar frames were installed throughout the facility. Premier Linings had to consider all the different ceiling finishes throughout the building and ADX Depot supplied access panels, hatches and frames to suit. ADX Depot Plastaworx® Access Panels are designed with quality components making them ideal for walls, ceilings and service shafts. Features include side fixing clips, slot-lock for ease of access, removable door for ease of installation, quick release safety chain plus are lined with felt and rubber seals providing system-reducing noise transfer. With their high acoustic rating of RW32, these access panels ensure the acoustic requirements of the space are achieved.

Knauf Stratopanel is also a product that was featured heavily throughout this building, particularly in the activity hall feature-ceiling. The staggered bulk heads were constructed to look like the ceiling is floating. A high-quality finish to the entire facility has been achieved, particularly evident with shadowline borders that separate the different plasterboards adding extra visual features and enabling the acoustics of the open-plan activity hall to be well balanced. Unwanted sound will be absorbed so that residents can enjoy their experience and time within the space.

The activity hall is one of many feature ceilings and bulkheads that have been finished throughout communal areas within the facility. Floating-look ceilings and bulkheads accentuated with strip-lighting also take the large open spaced design to the next level. “Having been the second Residential Care home designed by Walter Brooke that we’ve worked on in the last year, this project ran pretty smoothly,” Premier Linings project manager David Hudson explains. “We knew what challenges to expect and were able to work with the builder to plan for them efficiently. With that and ADX Depot as our major supplier supporting us through on-time supply of materials, everything came together easily resulting in a great finished project.”

Neighbouring a child-care centre and overlooking sporting grounds, the views are equally pleasing inside and out. With such experienced teams working together to design, supply and construct this new building, Helping Hand Golden Grove is now open and providing a comfortable and vibrant living facility to residents who have or are planning on moving in.
