Higher Learning
Heathfield High School
Set in the Adelaide Hills, just 15 minutes from central Adelaide, Heathfield High School is popular for both local and international students wanting quality and diverse learning experiences. When the school sought an architecturally sound upgrade and rebuild, ADX Depot was proud to collaborate with the teams from Grieve Gillett Andersen (Architect), Harrold & Kite (Builder) and Adelaide Commercial Maintenance (Contractor) to create an impressive architecturally sound outcome.
Products supplied for this project:
- Steel stud and track
- Plasterboard
- Compound, glue and screws
- Ceiling grid, accessories and column rings
- Access panels
- Insulation
The brief entailed achieving a sleek and contemporary feel, which called for top-tier materials from ADX Depot, including concealed ceiling framing, plasterboard and compounds along with perforated plasterboards. Patterned walls provided a pop of character, and a high-end finish completed a workspace for students to reach their peak creativity.
“It was a big and complex project,” says Nigel Clark, Harrold & Kite Project Manager. “It took a solid team working together and ADX’s reliability made a huge difference. They were always on time and had great communication throughout the project with the contractor, our site supervisor, Brad, and the guys on site, which meant we avoided potential issues.”
Jacob Stuart, the Managing Director of Adelaide Commercial Maintenance worked as the linings contactor on the project and speaks highly of both the process and the outcome.
“The project involved a new build of three stories, plus a refurbishment of the existing three-and-a-half levels so it was significant and took just over a year of work on site. My main scope was doing the petitions, ceilings and some façade work. It meant running a tight ship to ensure we did a top-quality job and met deadlines — and I’m really proud of how it all came up.
“We used perforated plasterboard throughout the entire new build and in part of the refurbishment, which created a few challenges in the way that it needed to be finished, but the team worked together to come up with solutions that looked good and were practical. Our biggest challenge was getting all the materials in time but my supervisor had Mike from ADX on speed dial the whole time and he was brilliant to work with, making sure there were no issues,” Jacob says.
“It was a no-brainer for us to work with ADX on a job like that (especially as it was out of town) because of their reliability for delivery and great service.”
For ADX Account Manager Mike Beatton, the impressive outcome matched all expectations.
“It came up amazingly, I’ve never seen school like it — it looks very architectural. We used a lot of our regular products, as well as some more unique things like the acoustic perforated plasterboard ceilings in the new kitchen, the gym and Pilates room, which look fantastic,” he says.
“It was a great team to work with. The way that Brad (Site Coordinator) and Jacob (Linings Contractor) forecasted everything they needed and ran things to a strict timeline made sure I could do things at my end to ensure there were no hold ups. It’s a brilliant result.”
