Fleurieu Peninsula Retreat Case Study

Deep Creek, Naiko Retreat

Perched above the Naiko Inlet headland beach on the Fleurieu Peninsula of South Australia, Naiko Retreat is the luxury getaway to add to your local-travel checklist! This three-bedroom retreat, each with their own ensuite and panoramic views, demonstrates an exquisite example of eco-lux design. The water-front construction and its specific climate conditions saw Max Pritchard Gunner Architects design this small holiday retreat to suit and reflect the steep, rolling hills.

Bringing the unique design to fruition, builder, Hocking Constructions, utilised materials supplied by ADX Depot who navigated and executed delivery along the 6km dirt track to access this coastal site.

With travel restrictions upon us, there is no better time to travel locally – and with such stunning views, the Fleurieu Peninsula has more than just it’s scenery to enjoy. Whatever time of year, the retreat is designed to enable guests to enjoy the location from within the space. Naiko Retreat has been designed to work in harmony with the surrounding environment. Its unique design is continued throughout the interior, with the curved ceiling. To achieve this finished look, a custom angle was manufactured and supplied by ADX Depot. Hocking Constructions have installed timber panelling adding natural warmth to the space, softening the stone and polished concrete surfaces.

“There was a range of purposely selected materials that were supplied and used throughout this project,” ADX Depot Sales Director, Daniel Wright, says. “For the three luxury ensuites, we supplied James Hardie Villaboard which is a heavy-duty wall lining that is resistant to damage from moisture. ADX also supplied Scyon Axon cladding that has been installed in the carport space. We really love how the Axon cladding adds an extra detail to the coastal-look. Being fibre cement, it’s weather-resistant properties will be beneficial considering the location.”

“Building at this location saw our team rise to the challenge,” says Paul Hocking from Hocking Constructions. “Ensuring the build was completed with respect to the surrounding environment while once again using ADX Depot for supply of a number of building products saw this project completed to deadline while accurately achieving the architect’s vision.”

Winner of 2019 HIA South Australian Custom Built Home $800,001 – $1.5M, Hocking Constructions have once again demonstrated their skill while bringing another Max Pritchard Gunner Architects’ inspirational design to life. Looking over the coast towards Kangaroo Island, Naiko Retreat sets the bar high for boutique lodges and continues to add to the refreshing experiences uniquely offered by South Australia.
