More room to care
Benson Radiology Gawler
A leader in diagnostic and interventional radiology, Benson Radiology Gawler is known for looking after South Australian patients. When they needed additional space for imaging services and facilities, they purchased a heritage property next door — a project that demanded the expertise of JAG Homes Gawler and Inception Design to get it right.
“The challenge was converting the heritage building into something functional, while staying sympathetic to the heritage form,” says Carly Scheepens, Director of Inception Design.
Products supplied for this project:
- Ceiling tiles
- Grid
- Insulation
- Lead doors
- Acoustic doors
- Ally door frames
- Stud and track
- A range of plasterboard linings
“We created a practical floor plan, followed the form of the original roof and used elements like the Monument colouring to complement the bluestone of the existing building,” Carly says.
It was also important to create synergy between the existing and heritage buildings, which Carly did using sky windows and raised ceilings to create good lighting in the internal areas.
ADX Architectural Product Manager Craig Butcher knew that a range of everyday and specialty products were on the cards, and he worked closely with Builder and Contractor Gerard Robertson of JAG Homes Gawler to deliver these needs.
“I really enjoyed this project as it went beyond the standard range of products that ADX is known for like plasterboard, insulation, and stud and track,” Craig explains.
A range of tailored ADX products enabled the team to solve the challenge of fitting the heritage building.
“The original stone walls had varying thicknesses, so we made up aluminium door frames after walls were lined,” Craig says.
“We sourced lead-lined doors for areas with radiation emission, and doors with Supatel core for acoustic qualities. The longer production time of these is always tricky, but we got them in ahead of time and avoided any project delays.”
Another issue was sourcing divider curtain tracks, the accessories to install them, and matching the existing signage. Timber feature walls were a new concept on the project, which posed another hurdle given the timber shortages across the country, but Craig rose to the challenge. This level of joint investment in the final product was behind Gerard’s reason for choosing to work with ADX Depot on the Gawler project.
“We needed reliability of quality products and availability of supply delivered on time. As always, ADX accommodated our needs and with prompt and reliable service,” Gerard says.
“We often needed products that are not everyday sale items for ADX, but they quickly followed up suppliers, submitted pricing and got exactly what we needed for the project to make it such a success. This included an excellent range of hospital grade curtain tracking and fittings and Metinno Flushline cavity sliders that were very easy to install.
We can’t fault Craig and the ADX team’s adaptability, quick follow-up of any problems, and keeping supply to the site as needed. We’d have no hesitation to work with them again and highly recommend them for all your building requirements,” Gerard says.
The final result of these teams working together is a fully-functional addition to Benson Radiology Gawler, which has increased their ability to continue providing the highest quality imaging services and patient care to South Australians.
